नव्या राष्ट्रीय शैक्षणिक धोरणानुसार कुठलाही विषय प्रादेशिक भाषेत विद्यार्थ्यना समजावून सांगणे अत्यावश्यक आहे. त्याचाच एक भाग म्हणून यंत्र अभियांत्रिकी मधील “थेअरी ऑफ मशिन्स” ह्या विषयी थोडक्यात माहिती सांगणारा लेख काल 08 March 2022 रोजी दै.लोकशाही ने प्रसिध्द केला.

थेअरी ऑफ मशीन्स 

थिअरी ऑफ मशिन्सला फक्त TOM असेही म्हटले जाते. हा मेकॅनिकल इंजिनीअरिंग (यंत्र अभियांत्रिकी) मधील एक महत्त्वाचा विषय आहे. यंत्र अभियांत्रिकी मधील हा विषय असा आहे जो यंत्राच्या विविध भागांची गती (velocity or speed) आणि त्यावर कार्य करणाऱ्या शक्तीं बाबत माहिती करून देतो. ह्या विषयात यंत्रांच्या विविध भागांना कार्यान्वयीत करण्यासाठी जे बल (Force) लागते आणि त्यामुळे यंत्राच्या विविध भागात जी सापेक्ष गती (Relative motion) निर्माण होते त्या बद्दलची विस्तृत माहिती मिळते. हा विषय मशीनच्या विविध घटकांमधील सापेक्ष गती (Relative motion) च्या अभ्यासाशी संबंधित आहे. यंत्राच्या विविध भागांची रचना (Design) करण्यासाठी यंत्र अभियंत्यासाठी यंत्रांचे सिद्धांत माहिती असणे अत्यंत आवश्यक आहे. यंत्रांचा सिद्धांत खालील चार शाखांमध्ये विभागला जातो:

(१) कायनेमॅटिक्स (kinematics): ही थेअरी ऑफ मशिन्सची ती शाखा आहे जी यंत्रांच्या विविध भागांमधील सापेक्ष गती (relative motion) शी संबंधित आहे. ह्यामध्ये, एखाद्या यंत्राला कार्यान्वयीत करणे, नियंत्रित (Control) करणे आणि त्यातील विविध भागांना सापेक्ष हालचाल (Relative motion) द्वारे कार्य (Work done) करण्यास बंधनकारक (Constraining) केले जाते.

(२) डायनॅमिक्स (Dynamics): ही थेअरी ऑफ मशिन्सची अशी शाखा आहे जी यंत्राच्या गतीशील भागांवर एखादी क्रिया होताना वापरण्यात येणारी शक्ती (Power) आणि त्याचा परिणाम ह्याचा एकत्रित अभ्यास करते.

(३) गतीशास्त्र (Kinetics): ही यंत्रांच्या सिद्धांताची अशी शाखा आहे जी यंत्राच्या विविध भागांचे वस्तुमान (mass) आणि त्यांची गती (velocity) ह्यांच्या एकत्रित परिणामातून निर्माण होणाऱ्या जडत्वचा (inertia) अभ्यास करते.

(४) स्टॅटिक्स (Statics): ही थेअरी ऑफ मशिन्सची ती शाखा आहे जी मशीनचे विविध भाग विश्रांती घेत असताना (कोणतेही कार्य करत नसताना) शक्ती (power) आणि त्यांचे परिणाम (effects) ह्याविषयीची माहिती देते. ह्यामध्ये विविध भागांचे वस्तुमान (mass) नगण्य (negligible) मानले जाते.

मशीन (Machine) अथवा यंत्र म्हणजे काय?

कोणतेही मशीन हे असे उपकरण असते जे उपलब्ध स्वरूपात असणारी एखादी ऊर्जा (Energy) प्राप्त करते आणि काही विशिष्ट प्रकारचे काम (workdone) करण्यासाठी त्या उपकरणाचा नंतर त्याचा वापर होतो. मशीन म्हणजे यंत्रांच्या विविध कठोर (Rigid) आणि प्रतिरोधक (Resisitant) भागांचे संयोजन आहे, ज्याचे सर्व भाग (Parts) एकमेकाना अशा प्रकारे जोडलेले असतात की ते एकमेकांच्या निश्चित सापेक्ष गती (Relative motion) ने फिरतात आणि शक्ती (Power) अथवा बल (force) प्रदान करतात. मशीन्स मध्ये पॉवर इनपुट आणि पॉवर आउटपुट मेकॅनिकल, इलेक्ट्रिकल, हायड्रॉलिक, केमिकल किंवा न्यूक्लियर पॉवर असू शकते. उदा.

(१) औष्णिक इंजिन (Heat engine) – हे औष्णिक ऊर्जा (electrical energy) प्राप्त करते आणि यांत्रिक उर्जे (mechanical energy) मध्ये त्याचे रूपांतर करते.

(२) इलेक्ट्रिक मोटर (Electric motor)- विद्युत ऊर्जेला यांत्रिक ऊर्जेत बदलते. (३) पंप (Pump)- हे इनपुट इलेक्ट्रिक पॉवर ला आउटपुट हायड्रॉलिक पॉवर मध्ये रुपांतरीत करते. बहुसंख्य यंत्रांना यांत्रिक ऊर्जा प्राप्त होते, आणि त्यात बदल करून ती ऊर्जा काही विशिष्ट कार्य (work done) करण्यासाठी वापरली जाते, ज्यासाठी ते मशीन डिझाइन केले आहे.

मशीनची दोन कार्ये असतात. (१) निश्चित सापेक्ष गती (Relative motion) प्रसारित (Transmit) करणे आणि (२) बल (Force) किंवा शक्ती (Power) प्रसारित करणे. मशीन्स सोबत मेकॅनिझम (Mechanism) हा शब्द वापरला जातो ज्याचा उपयोग मशीन मधील विविध भागांच्या संयोजनासाठी केला जातो. मशीन आणि मेकॅनिझमचे एक साधे उदाहरण म्हणजे IC इंजिन आणि स्लाइडर क्रॅंक (Slider crank) यंत्रणा, लेथ (Lathe), स्क्रू जॅक(Screw Jack) होय. स्लाइडर क्रॅंक (Slider crank) यंत्रणा क्रॅंकच्या वर्तुळाकार (रोटरी) मोशनला स्लाइडरच्या स्लाइडिंग मोशन (Sliding motion) मध्ये रूपांतरित करते. तर, IC इंजिन पिस्टनमधील उपलब्ध यांत्रिक ऊर्जा, क्रॅंक शाफ्ट (Crank shaft) मधील आवश्यक टॉर्क (Torque) मध्ये रूपांतरित करते.

यंत्रांचे वर्गीकरण

(१) यांत्रिक ऊर्जा निर्माण करण्यासाठी यंत्रे: ही यंत्रे ऊर्जेच्या इतर प्रकारांना यांत्रिक कार्यामध्ये रूपांतरित करते. उदा: स्टीम इंजिन, स्टीम टर्बाइन, I. C. इंजिन, गॅस टर्बाइन, वॉटर टर्बाइन इ.

(२) यांत्रिक ऊर्जा इतर उर्जेच्या स्वरूपात प्रसारित करण्यासाठी यंत्रे: ह्या यंत्रांणा कन्व्हर्टिंग मशीन म्हणून ओळखले जाते. उदा: इलेक्ट्रिक जनरेटर, हायड्रॉलिक पंप इ.

(३) उपयुक्त कामासाठी यांत्रिक ऊर्जा वापरण्यासाठी तयार करण्यात आलेल्या मशीन्स. उदा. लेथ (lathe) आणि इतर मशीन टूल्स (Machine tools) इ.
